In this step, you can learn how to use TestDisk to recover a corrupted partition table on a damaged hard drive.

1. First, connect an unknown hard disk drive (HDD) to your computer.

7. On the next screen, click “Enter” at “Analyze” option and permission TestDisk Utility to analyze HDD and find missing partition table structure.

8. After disk analysis, TestDisk should display the current partition structure. Click on “Enter” again and allow TestDisk toQuick search” for the missing partitions on your disk.

9. If TestDisk can find the missing section(s) duringQuick Search’ operation, then you will see a screen similar to the one below. Click on “PPress the ” key on your keyboard to make sure your files are in the partition found.

10. At this point, two different things (situations) can happen:

Case 1. If you see a list of your lost files on your screen like the screenshot below, click “.QTo return to the previous menu and go to step 3, press the letter button.

Case 2. If TestDisk cannot open (recognize) the file system or the file system is damaged, then you need to perform a deeper search. TestDisk Utility to find missing partitions. For this:

Step 3: Rewrite the partition structure to disk.

1. After your files are successfully recognized (listed) as described above., press the buttonQ” to continue restoring the partition table on your disk.*

ONCE AGAIN: IF YOUR FILES ARE NOT LISTED ON THE SCREEN, DO NOT PROCEED TO OVERWRITING THE PARTITION TABLE FOUND. In this case, use one of the recovery programs mentioned in this article or visit a professional data recovery service to see if you can recover your files.

2. On the screen below, use the keyboard arrows to select “Write” option and then click “Enter” to write the found partition structure to the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the hard drive. Click on (“y” when asked to confirm your decision).

3. After that, “QClick several times to exit the TestDisk utility, and then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

IMPORTANT: If Windows tries to check for errors on the problematic hard drive at startup, DO NOT allow the disk check.
