How to share OneDrive files with others –

Microsoft OneDrive is the default online storage and sync service for Windows. With the array of amazing features it offers, we don’t mind saying that this app is better than almost all its competitors.

OneDrive allows you to store documents online and access Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) in a web application. It also allows you to securely collaborate with partners, suppliers, customers, or clients outside of your organization, regardless of whether they have a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Sharing files with others using OneDrive is simple, but if you’re new to OneDrive, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to share files using OneDrive.

Part 1. How to share files with others on OneDrive.

Method 1. Invite people on OneDrive by email.

1. Select and click on the OneDrive file/folder you want to share with others Sharing Click the button on the OneDrive toolbar at the top of the screen. *

*Note: If you want to share an individual file or folder, right-click on it and select Share.

2. In People invite box, enter the email address of the person sharing the file or folder. (Also include a message.)

3a. When you’re done adding recipients, click “Anyone with a link can edit” to set access permissions for the shared file.


3b. Specify whether people you share the file/folder with can edit the file, and optionally set a password and expiration date for accessing it. Click when done Please apply.

4. Finally, click on it Submit button to share files.


Method 2. Send the link of shared files via other platforms (email, Messenger, Viber, skype, etc.).

1. Select and click on the files you want to share with others Sharing button above.


2. Click now Copy the link to get the shared files link,

3a. press Anyone with the link can edit to change access rights on shared file(s).


3b. In the Link Settings section, specify whether you want users with shared file links to only be able to edit or view the file(s) and optionally set a password and expiration date. Click when done Please apply.


4. Finally click Copying Use any app/platform to copy the link to your OneDrive shared files in the clipboard and then paste the link and send it to your partners.


Part 2. How to stop sharing OneDrive files or folders or change permissions.

To see all your shared files on OneDrive and to stop sharing shared files or change permissions:

1. press Shared on the left.


2. Select the file or folder you want to stop sharing or change the sharing permissions.

3. Click on the information Information Tap and click on the icon in the upper right corner to open the Details panel Access control.

Note: The info icon is located below your profile picture. If you don’t see it, make sure you only have one file or folder selected – if you have multiple items selected, it won’t show up.


4. Yes Access control options:

A. press Add people if you want to share your file/folder with new users.

B. click on X (Remove link) to Stop sharing* OneDrive file/folder and…

*Note: You can also stop sharing via Can be edited link (see below).

C. click on Can be edited menu, to change access permissions In the OneDrive shared file/folder or stop sharing file with a specific person.
