An ISO file Image or Disc Image is a file that contains all the data content on an optical disc (CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc). This file also contains the file system of the optical disc and can be created using burning programs such as Nero, ImgBurn, etc. The advantages are that you can always have a digital copy of your original optical disc on hard drive or removable media without having to own a physical optical disc.
One of my favorite free ISO file mounting utilities is called “.Virtual CloneDrive” by Slysoft. With this utility, you can easily install .ISO, .CCD, .DVD, .IMG, .UDF and .BIN files on all versions of Windows. (Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, Server 2008 and Server 2003)
