A few months ago, I enabled automatic forwarding in Outlook 365 to forward all my Office 365 emails to Gmail, and the forwarding rule worked fine for a few months. But today the dispatch rule stopped working for no apparent reason with an error:

Delivery to these recipients or groups failed: xxx@gmail.com Your message was not delivered because the recipient’s email provider rejected it. Diagnostic information for administrators: Creating server: SN6PR0102MB3373.prod.exchangelabs.com @xxx.com Remote server returned ‘550 5.7.520 Access Denied, Your organization does not allow external redirects. Contact your administrator for further assistance. AS(7555)‘”

How to fix: Office 365 Forwarding not working. Delivery failed. Your organization does not allow external transmission. 550 5.7.520 No permission.

The Outlook 365 forwarding error “Delivery failed, your organization does not allow external forwarding – Remote server returned.’550 5.7.520 Access Denied” can occur for the following reasons:

  • Reason 1. If you enable email forwarding for more than ten (10) recipients. In this case, go ahead and create a distribution group with these recipients and forward to this distribution list instead, as Office 365 does not allow automatic forwarding of emails to more than 10 email addresses.
  • Reason 2. When Email forwarding is disabled inside Office 365 Outbound Spam Filtering Policies. In this case, continue and enable email forwarding in the Outbound Spam Filter policies using one of the following methods to fix the outbound delivery error.

Method 1. Change the outbound spam filter policy in the Office 365 admin center.

To change the default antispam filter settings in the Office 365 admin center:

1. Introduction Go to the Office 365 admin center and open Office Security and Compliance (for example: “Protection settings” > https://protection.office.com/homepage).

2. Expansion Threat Management in the left panel and click Politics.

In Threat policy press Anti-spam

4. In Anti-spam settingsexpand Outbound spam filtering policy and press Editing a policy. *

*Note: If you want to enable external email forwarding for specific users, go to method-2 below.

5. In the “Outgoing Spam Filtering Policy” settingsinstall the Automatic forwarding for On-Forwarding is enabled and press Save.

Method 2. Enable external forwarding for individual users in Office 365.

To enable email forwarding for specific mailboxes in Office 365 anti-spam settings:

1. Click on the Office 365 antispam filter settings Create an exit policy.

2. give a Name for the new policy and then:

a. Installation the Automatic forwarding for On-Forwarding is enabled.

b. press Add a condition.

c. Choose Sender and then select the users to apply the new logout policy to.

d. press Save when done.

Method 3. Change the outbound spam filter policy in Office 365 via PowerShell.

Using PowerShell, issue the following command to enable email forwarding in an outbound spam filter policy: *
