Windows 10 gives you the ability to log into your PC with a PIN (personal identification number) as an alternative login option in addition to your password. Using a PIN makes it easy to access your Windows 10 device without having to enter a complex password.

Here’s how to add or change a PIN in Windows 10:

1. Transition Start > Settings > Accounts > Access options.
2. select Windows Hello PIN on the left.
3. click on Add button to create a new PIN for your account or Change Click the button to change your PIN.

However, sometimes when you try to set or change a PIN in Windows 10, the following problems may appear:

  • Incorrect PIN error when trying to change the PIN, even if the PIN is entered correctly.

  • Something went wrong (code: 0x8009002d). Restart your device to check if it fixes the problem or not.
  • After clicking Add PIN, nothing happens.
  • No PIN option available (No Windows Hello PIN option available).*

1. Sign out Windows system.
2. On the login screen, select Input parameters and then click on the key sign
3. Enter your Windows login password.
4. After logging in, try to change your PIN. If you still can’t change your PIN, click Delete to delete the current PIN and click Add to add a new PIN.

Method 1. Reset PIN.

Step 1. Activate the administrator account

As a precaution, go ahead and enable the Administrator account:

1. Opening Command line as administrator.
2. In the command line, type the following command and press Enter:

Step 2. Install the Unlocker utility

1. Download and Installation* most recent Unlocker version from here.

*Note: If you cannot log on using your account password, log on to Windows with an Administrator account, and then reset the user password.

5. Keep going Add a PIN code.

Method 2. Fix Windows corruption errors using DISM and SFC tools.

If you are unable to add/change your PIN, follow the instructions below to repair your Windows 10 system files and proceed to reset your PIN.

1. Open command prompt as administrator. For this:

1. Enter the following in the search field: cmd or command line
2. right click on it command line (result) and select Run as administrator.

  • Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

3. Please be patient while DISM fixes the component store. After the operation is complete (you should be notified that the corruption in the component store has been fixed), give this command and press the button. Enter:

4. Once the SFC scan is complete, restart your computer.
5. Go to Add or Change PIN

Method 3. Enable the PIN option through the registry.*

*Note: This method is typically used for computers that are joined to an Active Directory domain and do not have PIN functionality.

1. Opening Registry editor. For this:

1. Press at the same time Win image + R buttons to open the run command window.
2. Stand up regedit and press Enter To open the registry editor.


2. Go to this button on the left panel:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System

3. Right-click on an empty space in the right pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit value).

6. Restart go to your computer and try to add the PIN again.
