If you encounter the error listed when trying to install or open a specific program, go ahead and change the Compatibility settings for that program as follows: *

Method 2. Fix “Referral returned from server” error in all affected programs.

1. press at the same time Windows image + R Buttons to open the Run command window.

7. Restart to save the changes, go to your PC and try to open the program with the error “Referral returned from server”.

Method 3. Turn off UAC. Only upload executables signed and verified by Group Policy.*

*Note: This method is only valid for Windows Pro versions.

3. Once you are in the Group Policy Editor, navigate to the location shown below.

  • Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options.
